Verrucae

dreamstime_xs_34732963 verruca on feetVerruca or ‘plantar warts’ are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) of which there are many types. Verrucae are contagious and exposure often happens at communal places like swimming baths, changing rooms, schools and areas where people walk barefoot. This is why children of school age often get verrucae.

Currently there is no known guaranteed ‘cure’ for verrucae but there are several treatment methods, all of which are designed to stimulate the body’s own immune system to recognise the virus which, once recognised, will then destroy the verruca.

Whilst for some people verrucae do not cause a problem, for others they can become painful or cosmetically unappealing. First Class Podiatry has a range of acid or cryotherapy verruca treatments to help reduce pain and to help stimulate the immune response to help eliminate the verruca. Please call me to discuss the options available.
